Fred P. Noffsinger

Fred P. Noffsinger

Fred Noffsinger was born March 10, 1885.
He grew up in the San Luis Valley. In 1927 he joined the Thompson Potato Grader Company in Greeley to become the Thompson-Noffsinger Company.

The Thompson-Noffsinger Company made farming tools and machinery.
They helped farmers grow potatoes and other crops easier and cheaper. They held many patents on their inventions.

Eventually, Thompson-Noffsinger became Noffsinger Manufacturing Company.
Fred was still inventing better equipment. in 1942, he made the first Two Row Combine. This machine made it possible for famers to harvest 1,500 to 2000 sacks of potatoes a day instead of the usual 600 sacks. This invention made Noffsinger Manufacturing world famous for their farming machines.

The most interesting invention was the Grasshopper Exterminator.
The Exterminator would fit on the front of a car, tractor or mower and catch, crush, and deposit the remains on the field.

Fred Noffsinger died May 29, 1950.
He is buried in Linn Grove cemetery.

In 1956, Noffsingers began to make farm machine parts only.
They have four plants in the USA and Canada. Their corporate office is still in Greeley.
